Master of Building Science, graduate studies

Grey earned both a Master of Architecture and a Master of Building Science from Arizona State University. There, his research focused on sustainable solutions for arid desert climates, including the feasibility of large scale urban PV panel installations. His thesis explored the use of ceramic rain screen panels as a passively cooled building envelope.

Master of Building Science - Ryerson University

Ilaria Mazzoleni holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Polytechnic of Milan, Italy, and a Master of Building Science from the University of Southern California's School of Architecture, and has continued further studies in Valencia, Spain, on an Erasmus scholarship. Over the last ten years, Mazzoleni has investigated progressive issues of sustainable architecture and building technologies, and has participated on international conferences pertaining to the subject.

The Master of Building Science degree requirements are outlined below for each year’s course of study.
The Master of Building Science program at Ryerson University is an interdisciplinary graduate program unique in Canada. It offers graduates of building-related programs an opportunity to explore the building science principles necessary to deliver sustainable buildings. The program provides high quality, professionally relevant, graduate education for students considering careers in the architecture, engineering and construction industry. The Master of Building Science program is intended for students with a degree in architecture, engineering or related areas. The typical program length is two years. Students with a professional five-year architecture degree may qualify for advanced standing. Studies are centered around each student’s thesis and are supported by research seminars and electives from architecture, engineering and other related fields. Students are individually guided through their study and thesis by three faculty advisors. The faculty has academic, research and professional practice experience in architecture, civil and structural engineering, environmental control system design, and computer applications. Many papers based on thesis work have been co-authored by faculty and students have been published and/or presented at professional conferences.Master's degree programs in building science aren't very common. However, some colleges and universities offer these degrees in a number of different, though closely related, forms. These include a Master of Building Science, Master of Science (M.S.) in Building Science and Master of Science (M.S.) in with a concentration in building science. Despite their slightly varying titles, the coursework in these programs is often very similar. Due to the hands-on nature of the field and the required lab work, you generally need to complete an on-campus program to earn a building science master's degree. The Master of Building Science program is intended for students with a degree in architecture, engineering or related areas. Graduate building science programs are available as a Master of Building Science or a Master of Science (M.S.) in Architecture with a building science concentration. These degree programs also emphasize energy efficient building design and the use of sustainable building materials. Intended for students with a bachelor's degree in architecture or a related field, such as engineering, these programs will take approximately two years to finish. You may also find schools that offer a M.S. in Technology with a building science concentration. These programs place an additional emphasis on construction management.

This work was completed as a component of a USC Master of Building Science Thesis by Alejandro Alberto Gamas Villamil (2014).

Our Master of Building Science (MBSc) bridges the gap between architecture, engineering, testing and building research. As future building scientists you will explore, question, test and explain how building performance, construction, sustainability, environmental factors and materials function within the built environment.
